What you eat is critical to optimizing your performance. A good diet, which is finely tuned, will increase energy, sense of well-being, while simultaneously shedding body fat and packing on muscle. When done right, the proper diet can nudge every important quantfiable marker for health in the right direction.
The CrossFit presciption is to “Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.” You will notice absent in that prescription are grains, processed foods, and many other things which are often found on grocery store shelves and resturaunts. This flies in the face of the traditional “low fat, high carb” diet. But this very same “low fat, high carb” diet has led to a near epidemic of obesity and type II diabetes.
CrossFit 535 advocates following the Paleo diet. The Paleo diet is simple yet remarkably effective for fat loss and halting or preventing a number of degenerative diseases. We eat meat & fish, preferably grass fed, free range, or wild caught. We eat lots of vegetables and some fruit, which are in season and organically grown, and eggs, healthy oils, nuts and seeds.
Search “Google” for Paleolithic or Paleo, diet. The return is extensive, compelling, and fascinating.
