On March 12, 2016, at approximately 1425 hours, Gold Run Area Officer Nathan Taylor was providing traffic control at the scene of a collision on Interstate 80, west of Castle Peak. While Officer Taylor was directing traffic, he was stuck by a passing vehicle. A witness to the collision, an off-duty EMT, immediately rendered first-aid to Officer Taylor. Despite significant life-saving efforts by medical personnel, on Sunday, March 13, 2016, Officer Taylor succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Taylor was a five-year veteran of the CHP. He is survived by his parents, wife (Rebecca), three sons (ages 8, 5 and 3), and two brothers (one of whom is a current CHP officer)
